Road Trip to Salt Spring Island Fulford Harbour | Mount Maxwell | Ganges
or we could call this a Wine & Goat Cheese Tour
Baynes Peak on Mount Maxwell Park was originally established for its distinctive landmark viewing point in 1938 with one of the highest points on Salt Spring Island overlooking the Southern Gulf Islands. The road up the mountain is a 30 minute drive and best driven in a 4x4. We will take you up there for a breathtaking view in our Toyota Tacoma.
You can do this trip yourself if you are driving a truck, or SUV. You will see cars drive up the mountain, however, they take a bit of a beating doing so.
If you book a private trip with us we will depart Birds of a Feather, or Victoria if you're not staying here at 9:30 am to catch the 11:50 am 35 minute ferry crossing to Fulford Harbour on Salt Spring Island. We will drive directly to Ganges for lunch, and if on a Saturday we will first go to the fun Salt Spring Island Market - our favourite! Everything sold at the market is either made, or grown on Salt Spring.
After lunch we will drive about 10 minutes to the Salt Spring Vineyard. There are several excellent restaurants in Ganges, however, if you would prefer a Bistro picnic at Salt Spring Vineyard instead then we can certainly do this instead.
Alternatively, we can head off in a different direction to the Salt Spring Island Cheese Farm to taste and/or purchase some world famous Artisan Goat cheese.
Afterwards we will take a 25 minute drive up Mount Maxwell to the Baynes Peak Lookout. The views are stunning.
While we wait in line at Fulford Harbour for the return ferry back to Swartz Bay (Victoria) you can explore several the unique gift stores and the very delicious food at the Rock Salt Restaurant & Cafe
Note: We also offer a private boat charter to Salt Spring, however, without a car this is best if your primary interest is the Saturday Market.
