Almost forgot that we have to go back home
"This is like home. Very quiet and relaxing. We almost forgot that we have to go back home. We also plan to come here one day with our daughters and definitely this is the place we want to stay at.

Will pass on to friends and family about this secret spot
"Thoroughly enjoyed your lovely B&B, fabulous shower and scenic location. A little bit of paradise surrounds you wherever one tends to gaze and we are envious of your location. As always you were there if needed without hovering over us. Very enjoyable and real homey. Will pass on to friends and family about this secret spot. Health and happiness.

Tempting to change our postal code!
"What a lovely quiet and peaceful place! The weather was nasty (for Victoria!) but we were so cozy and comfortable. We loved watching the otters playing in the snow on the dock while the snow fell softly. We appreciated having a lovely quiet place to retreat to at the end of the day after our families and grand children exhausted us! It was wonderful to see our 3 grandsons (ages 7, 5 & 2) but fabulous to have such a perfect retreat. The swans, herons, seagulls & eagles & otters were a bonus! Had we stayed any longer it would have been tempting to change our postal code! Thank you for making our Christmas visit with our families so wonderful.

Amazing views and nice wildlife
"All four of us have had a wonderful long weekend exploring the local area. Thank you so much Dieter for the wonderful & diverse breakfasts and valuable information of places of interest & local history. We would very much like to come back to Birds of a Feather in a different season. Caitlan and Susannah ages 6 and 9 also wrote: I like it here it is fun. It has amazing views and nice wildlife.

Tub & shower were definitely a highlight!
"A great place! The rooms was very nice, the deck was fun to have a cocktail on. The tub & shower were definitely a highlight! The lagoon is beautiful we took the paddle boat out and had a great time hanging out with all the birds, saw a bald eagle, two great herons, lots of geese and ducks, some other birds we didn't know. A deer surprised us by the dock. The breakfast was good too bad only one day of breakfast. All in all a great place to stay.

"FABULOUS stay here on my first Thanksgiving away from home! it was nice to get away from Pearson College (only 15 minutes away) to visit with my parents and do the tourist thing in my new home. The room was great, really enjoyed all the space. Thanks Dieter for the great recommendations and breakfasts!

Humpys, Orcas, Stellars and California Sea Lions all in one afternoon
"Every day is a unique adventure out on the Salish Sea but today's trip stood out. We launched at Pedder Bay Marina in Metchosin to place us close to Race Rocks. As the California and Stellar Sea Lion bulls were entertaining us from their perches on the rock formations we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by a dozen or so of these mamoths swimming, diving and porpoising. Then the incredible happened. One of the stellars suddenly sprang out of the water not 40 feet from us with a huge salmon which it had just caught as it breached the surface. The salmon was squirming it the sea lion's mouth. Just as quickly as the stellar had surfaced he dove again and repeated this motion 2 more times. All the while a dozen or so of his very excited mates were porpoising almost in unison as a group. In 12 years being out here on the ocean that was a first for me. This was just the begginning of our adventure. We had heard reports of 4 to 6 humpbacks in the general vicinity over the past week. As we networked with our colleagues we heard 6 transient orcas were nearby. We spent a bit of time enjoying the orcas before heading out in the direction of the shipping lanes where soon we spotted 4 humpbacks. They put on quite a show for us including some excellent tail flukes. The humpbacks were also very vocal. All this in the space of 4 hours on one of those special autumn days when the seas were calm and the sun was out.

Bald eagles, turkey vultures, porpoise, seals, sea lions, orca killer whales
"A superb stay in an outstanding location - topped by a fantastic day with Dieter looking for - and finding the local wildflife, bald eagles, turkey vultures, porpoise, seals, sea lions and the highlight 2 orca killer whales. All in the most stunning scenery. Its been wonderful to stay here for four nights on our road trip around the west coasts of Canada and America - celebrating our silver wedding anniversary. We've also enjoyed the chance to sit and watch the birds - the birding scope is a great idea. Thanks for a wonderful stay in a fabulous place - we hope to return.

Thanks for a lovely holiday
"We had a wonderful 5 day stay at the Birds of a Feather. We enjoyed all that this area had to offer, from the beautiful sunrise, the abundant wildlife and amazing scenery, the lazy sunsets. The advice that Dieter gave us was invaluable. Had we not taken this advice we would have missed a most exciting whale watching trip. We were lucky enough to encounter a super pod. Everywhere you looked, you saw whales performing all sorts of acrobatics. It was perfect. The gardens at Hatley Castle also provided us with photo opportunities. We saw peacock families as well as hummingbirds. Well worth a visit. Thanks for a lovely holiday.

James Dunsmuir's great grandson attends Hatley's 100th anniversary
"We were attending, as a family, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the building of Hatley Park by my great grandfather, James Dunsmuir. Birds of a Feather was an ideal stopping point looming across the water as it does, to Hatley. The facilities were excellent. The children much appreciated the garden and especially the canoe which the adults also enjoyed. The resident geese and swans, as well as the occasional otter added to the attraction. The sun setting and the moon rising over the most beautiful scenery were enjoyed by all of us. Many thanks to Dieter and Annette and especially for the lovely Royal Roads book.

Will be sure to come back for a longer stay
"Had a lovely stay, we're sorry it was so short, but we will be sure to come back for a longer stay.

Another day here and we'd be changing our postal code
"September 1st to 10th. On a scale of five stars we give Dieter and Annette a six point four. Another day here and we'd be changing our postal code. The island and all it contains, including all the tourist bits is a memorable experience. Tales of our adventure will induce immediate jealousy I'm sure. Some observations: There is enough slate on the roof of the Empress Hotel to give every kid in Canada a pioneer lap top. Mercedes sports car convertibles are thicker than Chevy's. Deer are more plentiful than cameras around Victoria harbour. If you can't find a good meal around here you shouldn't leave home. Being an Ontario native, trees aren't something new, however, if trees were legs, the ones out here would be Vegas show girls. Tip the waitress well, she will remember you on your 2nd visit; I know it happened. The Butchart Gardens is a perfect example of what one person's vision can evolve in to. The Mrs. took a quarry and turned it into one giant flower pot. When we arrived the vintage boat get together was happening in Victoria harbour. If you added up the value of the display of floating history it would equal Canada's operating budget (that's polite for debt) British California, or "the left coast" is another piece of this geography that puts the "Oh" in Oh Canada.

Tried to book longer but its obviously so popular - even 6 months ahead of time
"We spent a day here (we tried to book longer but its obviously so popular - even six months ahead of time) It's obvious why everyone enjoys it so much - magnificent scenery and Dieter is so friendly, interesting and informative. The sea-otter playing around the [dock] gangway early in the morning was a beautiful added attraction.

We hope to make this an annual outing
"We had such a wonderul weekend on our first mother, daughter, granddaughter trip. We loved our room here - so homey and comfy and the breakfast was wonderful. We hope to make this an annual outing.

Finest B&B that we've stayed in the past five years
"Dieter, you have an absolutely first-class space! It is the finest B&B that we've stayed in the past five years and we enjoyed every minute of it so much that after our hike to the Japanese Garden yesterday, we just hung out here and relaxed in the afternoon rather than more sight-seeing. Your recommendation of the "My Chosen Cafe" in Metchosin was also excellent. Very good food, ample portions and extremely reasonable prices.
Vielen Dank fur alles. Wir hoffen das wir nächstes Jahr wieder kommen können fur einen längeren Besuch.

Nice little treasure tucked just off the main drag
"Thank you kindly for a lovely stay. What a nice little treasure tucked just off the main drag. So nice to be away from the hustle and bustle yet just a quick drive in to town. Our time in Victoria was wonderful and full of many things to do.
Day 1: Hatley Castle, followed by tea at the Empress Hotel and then Butchart Gardens in the evening. Great to see the gardens at this time of day ... got there around 6:00 pm, walked the grounds in the day light, waited for it to get dark and re-walked the grounds once all of the lights came on. Our favourite was the sunken garden.
Day 2: drive to Nanaimo. Never actually made it to Nanaimo but had a splendid day stopping along the way. GBS glass blowing, Cowichan Bay Village and had our first experience touring the grounds of a place that makes hard cider.
Day 3: tour City of Victoria. Parliament Buildings a must see. Lunch at Willie's on the Terrace - terrific. Dinner back at "home" on the terrace looking over the lagoon (after a canoe ride)
We had a blast in Victoria and our stay at Birds of a Feather helped to make it a lovely experience.
